Teen Titans Go! to the Movies Tracking for Box Office Success
While fans will have to wait until December before the next live-action DC superhero film, Aquaman, makes waves on the big screen, the next DC animated feature film, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, is right around the corner. However, while the latter is hardly expected to score as much at the box office as the King of Atlantis’ first solo outing, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies is actually on track for quite a respectable opening weekend.
According to Variety, the Warner Bros. animated comedy is currently tracking between $14 and $19 million domestically for its opening weekend. Of course, this may seem like a drop in the bucket in the day and age of billion-dollar superhero blockbusters, but considering most 2D animated superhero films are simply relegated to direct-to-video releases, those numbers are nothing if not promising.
While Cartoon Network’s current Teen Titans animated series Teen Titans Go! has been well-received since its debut in 2013, fans of the original show have been vocal about their preference for the earlier series, citing Go!‘s radical shift in tone and animation style, along with no narrative connection to the original. Thankfully, though, voice actor Tara Strong gave fans hope that, should Teen Titans Go! to the Movies perform well in theaters, it could lead to a revival of the original series.
Arriving in theaters on July 27, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies features returning series stars Scott Menville as Robin, Khary Payton as Cyborg, Hynden Walch as Starfire, Greg Cipes as Beast Boy and Tara Strong as Raven, joined by Kristen Bell and Will Arnett, with appearances by Nicolas Cage as Superman, Halsey as Wonder Woman and Lil Yachty as Green Lantern. It is directed by series developer Aaron Horvath and series producer Peter Rida Michail.
