RUMOR: Gyllenhaal Is ‘Probably’ Replacing Affleck as Batman
Picking up from previous rumors of Jake Gyllenhaal being the next actor to step into the shoes of Batman, a new report suggests it’s “probably” going to happen.
According to Revenge of the Fans, a source close to the project believes Gyllenhaal will be a direct replacement for Ben Affleck should the actor leave the role behind.
“Gyllenhaal is probably Batman. Affleck is not out of it yet,” the source said. “That’s the thing, he still has a contract. But the studio is sour on him. If Ben rolls, Jake is in.”
This certainly adds fuel to the rumor that Gylleenhaal will replace Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight in the DC Extended Universe, star in the planned Batman trilogy and, presumably, play a central role in other ensemble pieces, like a potential Justice League sequel.
While no official casting announcements have been made, writer and director Matt Reeves recently revealed that the story for The Batman has been decided, and he’s now outlining the project. Affleck’s future as the popular DC Comics hero is in doubt. He was originally attached to write, direct and star in a standalone Batman flick himself, but backed out of that commitment shortly after the announcement was made.
Since then, countless rumors have surfaced and the future of the DCEU is shrouded in mystery. Another recent rumor claims that Affleck will receive one last hurrah in either Flashpoint or the untitled Suicide Squad sequel, though nothing is confirmed at this time so it’s worth taking the news with a grain of salt.
