At the Hollywood premiere on Wednesday for Rampage, the actor was asked about the status of the project, in which he will reprise his role from Justice League. His answer was brief but promising. “There are things in the works,” Mangianello said. “That’s all I can say.” Best known for his roles in Magic Mike and True Blood, Mangianello was announced in September 2016 to play the fan-favorite DC mercenary Deathstroke in the Batman solo movie. With Affleck’s departure as the director and co-writer of The Batman in early 2017, Mangianello’s involvement in the film came into question. But just ahead of the character’s introduction in a Justice League post-credits scene, news broke that the actor will headline a Deathstroke solo movie written and directed by Gareth Evans (The Raid). Because of the character’s rising prominence the DCEU, Slade Wilson is once again off-limits to The CW’s Arrow, on which he was portrayed by Manu Bennett. “These are DC’s characters, we’re just renting them,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim explained in December. “We use the characters that they tell us we can use, when we can use them.”
