Actor John Boyega first broke out with Attack the Block, and has only continued to see his star rise thanks to Star Wars and most recently, Pacific Rim: Uprising. However, the actor could be up for joining yet another massive franchise judging by his recent comments.
While at Awesome Con this weekend, Boyega was asked about those persistent Blade rumors. The rumors that the actor was being considered for Blade have run rampant for a few years now, and only gained traction following Marvel’s announcement of a since-cancelled Blade comic series starring his daughter. Boyega, of course, has continually debunked those rumors and has even suggested he’d rather see Wesley Snipes return to the role. However, according to Bounding Into Comics, the actor revealed he has talked to Marvel Studios about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It’s currently unknown when said talks took place, as it was heavily rumored the actor had previously been in talks to join Black Panther, suggesting Boyega had met with the studio quite a while ago. However, he also indicated that should he join the MCU, it wouldn’t be for quite some time as he’s hoping to explore other genres outside of sci-fi for the time being.
The actor, of course, is coming off of Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to the fan-favorite film, Pacific Rim. Along with starring in the film, Boyega also took on the role of a producer, a role he seems keen to continue with future projects. Just recently, the actor told Variety that if he could, he’d produce every film he’s in. “Being a producer has been fantastic,” he explained. “It’s something I’d studied for and I wanted to be part of. There was a whole process I’d never seen from that perspective.”
Of course, should the actor join the MCU, it’s highly unlikely he’d be able to come aboard as a producer. But it would allow him to follow in the footsteps of one of his Star Wars co-stars, Lupita Nyong’o, who has found success in both franchises.
In theaters now, Pacific Rim Uprising features John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, Scott Eastwood as Nate Lambert, Cailee Spaeny as Amara Namani, Jing Tian as Liwen Shao, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori, Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler and Burn Gorman as Dr. Hermann Gottlieb.
