Infinity War: How Many Infinity Stones Does Thanos Possess?
Thanos is coming for Earth, and he’s not taking any prisoners.
The final Avengers: Infinity War trailer was released today, offering fans a whole new batch footage to pore over as they await the release of the film. Compared to its predecessor, this new trailer was heavier on story, giving us new details about the events that will lead to the invasion of Wakanda. What’s more, we saw a lot of Thanos in action, which finally made the threat he represents to the Avengers tangible. Now, the heroes know what the Mad Titan is after, and they’ll fight with everything they have to stop him.
But here’s the very, very big problem: Thanos already has two Infinity Stones in his possession before he comes face to face with the Avengers. Thanks to both Avengers: Infinity War trailers, we now know that the purple supervillain will start the movie with the Power Stone already firmly embedded in his Gauntlet. Then, with a crush of his hand, he will smash the Tesseract to pieces and claim the Space Stone.
With the Mind Stone on Vision, the Time Stone in the possession of Doctor Strange and the Soul Stone still unaccounted for, it seems like Thanos will spend the better part of Infinity War with no more than two stones in his grasp. As a matter of fact, in the epic final shot of the newest trailer, when Steve Rogers holds Thanos’ fist back with all of his might, we can see that the Mad Titan still only has two gems on his Gauntlet.
However, since we’re unsure if the battle of Wakanda takes place in the final act of the film or earlier, we can’t know for certain how many Stones Thanos will have in his grasp come the movie’s credits. After all, Vision losing the Mind Stone has already been teased, and the Reality Stone, last seen in the hands of the Collector, could easily come into play at any point.
What we do know is, when Thanos invades the Earth, he’ll come knocking with two Stones — and even that might prove too much for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. We dread to think what the supervillain would (or will) do when he finds all that he is after. When Thanos holds all six stones, then, like Gamora said, it will already be too late.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity Warstars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin. The film arrives April 27.
