www.cbr.com/shang-chi-filming-australia/As the Marvel Cinematic Universe prepares for its future beyond Avengers: Endgame, the studio may have just secured a filming location for its planned Shang-Chi solo film. New reports indicate Marvel Studios is targeting Sydney, Australia, for the production of Shang-Chi, Marvel's martial arts superhero and the first Hollywood mainstream superhero film to have an East Asian lead. The studio has secured $34 million from two different Australian tax incentives to film in the New South Wales state for what is expected to be a $150 million production. "[Marvel Studios is] thrilled to be returning to Australia to work with the talented and highly skilled Australian crew, stunt performers and actors, together with the thousands of small businesses across Australia that supply world class equipment, goods, facilities and services to large budget productions," Marvel Studios Vice President David Grant said in a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald, from whom this report originates. 2017's Thor: Ragnarok had previously filmed in the Australian state of Queensland for both tax incentives and to better accommodate Australian star Chris Hemsworth and New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi. An official start date of principal photography for Shang-Chi has not yet been officially announced. Shang-Chi is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, based on a script by Dave Callaham. There is no cast or release date yet for this upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
