The Predator Reshoots Changed Most of the Third Act, Says Keegan-Michael Key

The Predator comes out this September, yet we’ve seen almost nothing from it so far. Shane Black has confirmed that the first footage from the movie will appear at Cinema Con, but we’ve also heard about some pretty big reshoots that might be the reason for the latest delay to September. We might have an idea of what those reshoots changed now. Cinema Blend recently spoke to Keegan-Michael Key and they asked him about the reshoots and what they were working on.
We just finished [reshoots] last week, and just about three-quarters of the third act was rewritten. And Shane Black is… he’s just a consummate professional, and a consummate writer. He’s a wordsmith! It was a really, really exhilarating experience, and I think that he’s still one of our most vibrant writers of cinema.
The Predator
So it sounds like a good portion of the ending was changed, but Key appears to still have a ton of confidence in Black as a writer and director. In fact Key shared a very sweet story about why he’s such a such a fan of Black’s.
We had a birthday party, my fiancée and I are born 10 days apart, and he wrote this lovely email afterwards. I don’t have my phone on me, and I don’t have it memorized. She just said, ‘Thanks for coming to the party,’ and he wrote this gorgeous erudite email. It was pithy, like three sentences, and we were in a public place! He’s just lovely. You think it’s going to take a month; it takes about one day for you to get over, ‘Holy shit, you wrote Lethal Weapon.’ He’s really, really, really terrific. It was a wonderful experience.
We’ll be learning more about The Predator as the summer goes on.
The Predator, directed by Shane Black, stars Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Thomas Jane, and Keegan-Michael Key. It will be released on September 14th.
