One of Marvel Comics' most controversial events may be heading to the big screen.
According to MCU Cosmic, Marvel Studios is quietly adapting the Ultimate Universe comic book event Ultimatum for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jeremy Conrad of MCU Cosmic reports story and plot details are scarce regarding the project, but if Marvel Studios does go through with bringing Ultimatum to the MCU, it will more than likely not be a straight adaptation of the comic. This would follow similar changes from comics-to-screen that took place in Captain America: The Winter, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. All of these films took basic ideas from the comics and made them work in the MCU.
Ultimatum was a 2009 limited series by writer Jeph Loeb and artist David Finch, and brought together the main heroes of the Ultimate Universe such as the Ultimates/Avengers, Spider-Man, the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Magneto, seeking revenge for the deaths of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, reversed the Earth's magnetic field, causing natural disasters across the world. The event drew criticism for its many deaths, which helped set the stage for the next era of the Ultimate line of comics.
Although it is unclear if Marvel Studios will adapt Ultimatum, it does have many of the major players under the MCU banner if it chooses to. The main villains Magneto and Doctor Doom will more than likely make their MCU debuts after the X-Men and Fantastic Four are properly introduced, though with the recent changes to Phase Five's release schedule, when that will happen is anyone's guess.
