RUMOR: Bruce Timm Helming New Animated Batman Film
Batman: The Animated Series' Bruce Timm is rumored to be helming a new animated movie called Batman: Soul of the Dragon.
Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm may be returning to the world of the Dark Knight in 2021, as a rumor suggests Timm is helming a new direct-to-video animated movie called Batman: Soul of the Dragon.
According to The GWW, the film will be an Elseworlds tale that will put more emphasis on Batman's martial arts training. The plot of the movie allegedly focuses on Batman and fellow martial artists Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva, who were all trained by the same sensei, who mysteriously vanished. However, when a cursed artifact reappears, the four do battle to gain control of it.
Aside from featuring Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva, the film will also be the first time DC martial artist Richard Drakunovski/Richard Dragon has been seen outside of comics. Created by writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Jim Berry in the novel Kung Fu Master, Richard Dragon: Dragon's Fists, the character would later headline his own short-lived comic primarily written by O'Neil called Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter. Both the novel and the comic introduced Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva respectively. Dragon's alias would later be stolen by one of his students, Green Arrow villain Ricardo Diaz, Jr., who claimed to have killed the real Dragon.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Batman: Soul of the Dragon is reportedly slated for a spring 2021 release date.
