Zack Snyder’s Justice League now has a release window for its premiere on HBO Max.
In an interview with Variety, Sandra Dewey, president of productions and business operations for WarnerMedia Entertainment, said that the film would premiere on the streaming service in "early to mid-2021." She would not, however, commit to a specific date.
The news comes just a few days after Snyder gave fans a taste of the film with a sneak peak at a cut scene that teases the first appearance of the DC Extended Universe's Darkseid. Snyder tweeted the footage along with a hint that more will be unveiled at the upcoming DC FanDom convention. Snyder will also be making a virtual appearance at the virtual Justice League convention on July 25-26.
There are still ongoing discussions taking place on whether it will be a four-hour director's cut or a six-part TV series. There is also a possibility that some of the original cast members will record new dialogue. Snyder and his wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder assembled the original postproduction crew to cut the project and finish visual effects. The new cut, however, will not involve any reshoots. The film was originally expected to cost $30 million to finish. However, a new report suggests that it could require more money to complete.
The announcement of the Snyder Cut ended the two-and-a-half-year movement that pushed for its release. It began when the film first premiered in theaters following reports that Snyder's version of the movie had been heavily altered by Warner Bros. and new director Joss Whedon after Snyder had to step down due to a family tragedy. Many blame those two parties for the film's subpar critical reception and argue that Snyder's product is far superior and fits more coherently with his previous two films in the DCEU canon: Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Zack Snyder's Justice League will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in early to mid-2021.
