Fox has released a synopsis for director Shane Black’s The Predator that teases upgrades to the titular deadly hunters, and new details about the plot of the next installment of the sci-fi action franchise.
Although the synopsis doesn’t give much away in terms of the Predators’ new abilities, it does reveal they’ll use the DNA of “other species” to empower themselves, which certainly means they’ll be deadlier than ever before:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The movie wrapped production in June 2017. However, reshoots, which began in March, involved a major overhaul of the third act. The Predator will act as a sequel to the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film about a team of commandos marooned in the Central American jungle where they encounter a murderous extraterrestrial warrior hunting them as game. Black’s new film will see humanity encountering more than one Predator, but this time not in a jungle. Instead, it takes a page out of the Alien vs. Predator films and Predator 2, moving the action to a suburban setting.
Co-written and directed by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3), The Predator stars Thomas Jane, Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key, Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Jake Busey, Trevante Rhodes, and Edward James Olmos. The film opens Sept. 14.
