Contrary to earlier reports, Fox’s Deadpool 2 may have actually scored better than its predecessor at its test screening. What’s more, the film may have added in a secret cameo scene.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel was screen tested three different times, with the first two scores coming in at 91 and 97. On the third test screening, Fox opted to test two separate cuts simultaneously, which earned a 98 and 94 respectively. Unsurprisingly, the studio will reportedly use the test cut that earned a 98. In comparison, Deadpool never scored above a 91 in its test screenings.
Since the film underwent reshoots so close to release, Deadpool 2 has been the subject of rumors that it wasn’t testing well. However, as with most Hollywood productions, reshoots are not a bad thing; even though they’re often interpreted as a bad sign, they’re often used to add more of something rather than to try and “fix a problem.” In this case, the film not only used the reshoots to add more of what test audiences loved — reportedly more Domino and Cable — but also a surprise cameo:
Deadpool 2 underwent reshoots — six days’ worth last month in Vancouver — to add more of what test screening audiences enjoyed. That’s three days fewer than those done for 2016’s Deadpool. There was also two hours’ worth of work recently in Los Angeles for a secret cameo.
Debuting May 18, director David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable.
